Now we know just how delicious Nando’s is and one of the most frequently asked questions we receive from you guys is, “Is Nando’s Halal?”. In this article, we have the answer regarding this and explain to why some select areas of Nando’s are halal and others are not.
Nando’s have 402 restaurants across the UK, 74 of which serve only Halal chicken and these are signposted both in the restaurant and online so be sure to check this out before you visit. A small proportion of chicken sold in other Nando’s restaurants may also be Halal. This may happen on rare occasions if there are, for example, issues with supply. However, all of our chickens are packaged, labelled and distributed to their intended restaurant. Nando’s continue to look at ways to offer chicken dishes which are guaranteed to be non-Halal for your needs. If you ask a member of the staff in the restaurant they will be happy to inform you of whether the meat is halal.
Who Supplies Nando’s Halal Chicken?
The halal chickens are supplied by Cargill Freemans of Newent. They are authorised by the Islamic Institute of Jurisprudence and are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of Halal chicken.
Nando’s still on their website that they are committed to the highest standards and therefore the quality, welfare, and health of their chicken is a priority. Ensuring that Cargill Freemans of Newent follows the strict Red Tractor Farm Assurance Standards. All of Nando’s chickens are indoor reared. They are pre stunned which minimises suffering and fear. The method used is a high frequency stun, this means the chicken is still alive, but unconscious when it is hand slaughtered and blessed by licensed Muslim slaughtermen. Their slaughter process is overseen by Mr. Ali Bham who has been a practicing Muslim slaughterman for over 20 years.
All of Nando’s Halal products are clearly segregated at the supplier and in their distribution centre. Nando’s Halal serving restaurants are authorised only to receive poultry from their approved distribution centre.
